Patagonia
Outfitters will be glad to share with you one of their favorite
fishing destinations:
Estancia Quemquemtreu, a privately owned working ranch dedicated
to breeding cattle and polo ponies.
From
Estancia Quemquemtreu, we access the Collón Cura, Caleufu
and Quemquemtreu rivers.

We
will take you on daily float trips in comfortable McKenzie
boats or rafts on the Collón Cura river, stopping to wade
pools and riffles. You will enjoy a wholesome picnic or an
Argentine "asado" (barbecue) on the riverbank and a nice long
rest before returning to more fishing well into the evening.
Our
guides do love the Collón Cura. From the guiding standpoint
the Collón Cura is the most "guide-friendly" river since it
offers numerous and diverse fishing options and can be fished
both from the boat and by wading in the countless channels
and pools, therefore it enables our guides to be able to provide
our guests with some of their best fishing experiences ever.
In the Collón Cura fish will take big dries such as hoppers,
stimulators and Chernobyl ants, as well as nymphs and streamers.
Evening hatches are great and sometimes the fish even become
selective and force us to match the hatches. Not only can
one catch many fish but one can also expect to catch a monster
brown, at any time (read article:
April Browns). In the words of some of our guests and
American guides: "the Collón Cura is the best river anywhere".
Estancia
Quemquemtreu also has its own small river, the Quemquemtreu
creek, flowing through the ranch property which fishes best
December through late January.
The
lodge offers accommodation for 10 in comfortable double rooms
each with their private bathroom. The country-style bar is
where guests and guides get together in the evenings to share
daily fishing experiences.

Besides
experiencing some of your best fishing while staying at Quemquemtreu,
there is the attractive alternative for the non-fishing companion
or not-so-keen fisherman of enjoying horseback-riding opportunities
during which herds of red deer are easily seen, especially
during our fall, and huge coveys of quail and flocks of Magellan
geese are a common encounter. To top all of this off, you
may also be lucky enough to witness a polo match.
.
Quemquemtreu has its own landing strip, and charters are easily
arranged from San Martín, Bariloche and Esquel. |
