| Collón
Cura River,
by Jorge Trucco

We
are happy to offer yet another fishing destination: Estancia
Collón Cura. Although this may be the latest addition
to our program, Patagonia Outfitters and Estancia Collón
Cura go a very long way back to the 70's and 80's.
Back then, the Collón Cura River puzzled me. The small
fly fishing fraternity of Argentina almost disregarded it
for it was too large a river and the fish were not as huge
as those of the Boca of the Chimehuín.
However, it was on a float trip back in 1979 with A. J. De
Rosa and Patty Reilly when I realized the full potential the
Collón Cura River really had for the international
fly fisherman.
At the time, Estancia Collón Cura did not have a lodge
or any form of accommodation nearby, therefore it only became
an extremely successful part of our town program.
Estancia Collón Cura has a sentimental meaning for
me as well. For it was also there that my waterfowl experience
began when Suzie Fitzgerald encouraged me to run a goose hunting
operation convincing sportsmen such as Guillermo "Bill"
Farfán, Jack Upchurch and Tom Callahan to try my new
program at face value. This first experience was an absolute
success and that was the beginning of a sequence that has
finally bloomed into our world class, five star, Blind Ambition
Wing shooting duck program (www.blindambitionwingshooting.com)
.

Estancia
Collón Cura seems to have been the place where I took
many of my first steps in different directions for it was
also there that my first two Fly Fishing the World TV shows
(Barrett Productions) were filmed. Celebrities for these first
shows being no other than famous fly fishing writer, Art Lee
and actor and friend, Michael Keaton.
Estancia
Collón Cura shines for the extremely easy and immediate
access (through a well planned road combination) to the best
stretches of the Collón Cura River. I may also say
that fishing in the Collón Cura River is much better
today than it was 30 years ago. Not only do we have the numbers
of fish we had in the past, but we also have the sizes of
the monster browns that dwell in the lower Piedra del Águila
Reservoir and swim into the Collón Cura River to feed
or spawn (read
article: April Browns).
I
have spent 15 years of my life scouting Estancia Collón
Cura both in summer (for trout) and in winter (for geese and
quail) and I cherish priceless memories that I will never
forget.
